  • William Cooper

    William Cooper is a Patent Attorney, and is admitted to practice in Ohio and the District of Columbia as well as before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. Bill is also a member of the American Bar Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, and the Cleveland Intellectual Property Law Association. Bill has experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications in many technical areas, including imaging technologies, computer hardware and software, internet and business methods and semiconductor processing.

    Bill received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, cum laude, in 1992 from Ohio University, where he was a member of Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu. He also received a Master of Business Administration degree from Ohio University in 1994. Bill went on to receive his Juris Doctor, as well as a Master of Taxation, in 1997 from the University of Akron.

  • Ali Assar

    Ali Assar is a Patent Attorney, and is admitted to practice in Ohio as well as before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Ali earned his Juris Doctor degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, and received his Bachelors degree in Biology from Case Western Reserve University.

    Ali is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), and the Ohio State Bar Association (OSBA), and served as the Vice President of the Student Intellectual Property Law Association at Cleveland-Marshall for two years.

    Ali has experience prosecuting patent applications in a variety of technical areas, including computer hardware, software, internet, and communications. Before practicing as a Patent Attorney, Ali managed and developed the technology resources of an engineering company.

  • Emily Arkutik

    Emily Arkutik is the Office Manager of Cooper Legal Group. Emily is extremely resourceful and has a strong familiarity with the complex procedures of the patent system, as well as the administrative practices and preferences of several large clients. In addition to administrating the day-to-day operations of the firm, Emily participates in client intake, meeting coordination, and docketing. Emily has significant training in Accounting and holds an undergraduate degree, cum laude, in Fashion Design from Kent State University.

  • Daniel Tate

    Daniel A. Tate is a Patent Attorney, registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in 2007. Dan earned his Juris Doctor degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Akron School of Law where he ranked in the top ten percent of his class and maintained a full ride scholarship. He held a "leadership" position on Law Review and has authored an article on the role of judges and juries in determining issues of obviousness in regard to patent validity. Dan is licensed to practice law in Ohio and passed the Ohio bar exam within the top two percent of exam takers.

    Dan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Akron, having graduated cum laude and having covered a broad range of topics involving hardware and software design. Before practicing as a Patent Attorney, Dan acquired technical experience as a Software Engineer at Tegron and as a Computer Engineer Co-Op with Research Triangle Institute while researching the thermoelectric properties of semiconductors. In his spare time, Dan is an avid runner with his wife Colleen.

  • Jack Gau

    Jack Gau is a Patent Attorney, and is admitted to practice in Ohio as well as before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Jack has experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications in a variety of technical areas, including computer hardware, software, internet, and business methods. He also has technical experience in digital signal processing, semiconductor fabrication, MEMs, computer science, and testing for memory defects.

    Jack received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 2005 from The University of Cincinnati, where he graduated cum laude, and was a member of Eta Kappa Nu. He went on to receive his Juris Doctor from the University of Akron in 2010. Jack is also fluent in Mandarin.

    Prior to obtaining his J.D., Jack worked as a product engineer at Texas Instruments, conducting the final test phase of digital signal processors.

  • Marcus Fischer

    Marcus Fischer is a Patent Attorney, registered to practice in Ohio and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Marcus earned his Juris Doctor degree, magna cum laude, from The University of Akron School of Law. He also earned a Certificate in Intellectual Property Law for his extensive coursework in intellectual property. While at Akron, he served on Law Review for two years and participated in the Giles Sutherland Rich Intellectual Property Moot Court Competition, where he advanced to the national competition. Marcus has also been recognized as the top academic achiever in eight classes, including Introduction to Intellectual Property Law, Trademark Prosecution, Patent Prosecution, and International Patent Prosecution.

    Marcus is in the process of earning a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. He also received a Bachelor of Science, cum laude, in environmental engineering from Miami University. While at Miami University, he served as Chair of the Student Technology Advising Committee and as a member of the President’s Council on Technology. Marcus also participated in the design and deployment of university-wide computing services.

    Marcus is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), the Ohio State Bar Association, and the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association.

  • Michael Craig

    Michael G. Craig is an Attorney and earned his Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from the University of Akron School of Law and is admitted to practice in Ohio. He has experience in patent drafting and prosecution, as well as patentability analysis and infringement analysis. He is knowledgeable in a variety of fields, including: computer-related hardware design, software development, networking and communications principles and protocols, computer and network security, programming languages, and other areas of computer-related art, as well as molecular biology, genetics, biological chemistry, inorganic and organic chemistry, and engineering design of manufacturing processes. Prior to his legal career, Michael worked as regulatory compliance specialist in a consulting firm for a variety of industrial, governmental, and other private enterprises, and for a chemical manufacturing company. He received his undergraduate degree in Biology (molecular and genetics), with a minor in computer science, from Hiram College. While at the University of Akron, Michael was an Editor of law review, the Intellectual Property Law Journal, on the Student Bar Association, the Moot Court Honor Society, and a member of the Phi Delta Phi honors law fraternity, while working full-time as a regulatory compliance professional.

    Michael also has experience in the "life sciences" including detailed training and work with genetic and molecular biological processes, such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR) techniques, DNA expression cloning, allele specific oligonucleotide (ASO) techniques, gel electrophoresis techniques, DNA microarrays, macromolecule blotting and probing techniques, protein expression, spectrophotometry, enzyme assay techniques, and many more. Further, Michael’s life science experience includes years of training and work with organic and inorganic human-chemical interactions, and chemical identification using a variety of techniques.

  • David Stein

    David Stein is a Patent Attorney, and is admitted to practice in the State of Ohio as well as before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. David earned his Juris Doctor degree from Case Western Reserve University in 2001, and is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Intellectual Property sections of the American Bar Association and the Ohio Bar Association, and the Association for Computing Machinery. David also holds a Master of Computer and Information Science degree from Cleveland State University in 2005 and a Bachelor of Science in Biology degree from The Ohio State University in 1997.

    David has acquired experience in the software arts, both as intellectual property counsel for software and internet oriented companies, and as a designer and programmer of advanced software technologies, including artificial intelligence algorithms and relational databases. David also spent several years with a technology transfer group, where he sought to identify and obtain protection for inventions arising from academic and clinical research across a broad spectrum of life sciences technologies. During his undergraduate years, David committed three summers conducting clinical and basic research in the fields of neurology and neurological surgery. Through these experiences and his professional practice, David has acquired experience in many life sciences technologies, including gene sequencing, protein analysis, bioinformatics, medical imaging in various modalities, and electronic medical record (EMR) interfaces.
